February is January with more light: still stormy, still icy, but 7–10 hours of daylight make day trips far more practical, and aurora conditions remain excellent. A good choice for a winter trip if you accept that the weather sets the schedule.

What’s open and driveable
Same pattern as January: the Ring Road, Golden Circle and South Coast are maintained and usually open, with storm closures a regular event - the Westfjords, highlands and many gravel roads stay effectively off-limits. The extra daylight makes it noticeably easier to reach Jökulsárlón and back in a day from Vík.
Typical conditions
Statistically one of the snowier months, with the same storm-then-calm rhythm as January. Ice remains the default road surface outside town. Late February often brings the first properly bright afternoons, and the low sun on fresh snow makes the South Coast exceptional. Wind remains the thing to respect most - check gust forecasts before committing to exposed stretches like the Eldhraun lava field or Öxnadalsheiði.

- Plan around the 10-day pattern: February usually gives you several calm, driveable days each week - use storm days for pools, museums and spas.
- The extra light means Jökulsárlón day trips from Vík are realistic again.
- Ice-cave tours run all month and February availability is better than the Christmas period.
- Watch for HÁLKA (icy) and HÁLKUBLETTIR (icy patches) statuses - they're the daily norm, not an alarm.
