A breezy day by Icelandic standards - nothing unusual, but keep a firm grip on car doors in exposed parking spots.

Are the roads clear in Iceland right now?
It varies by season and region. The Ring Road and other lowland roads are usually clear outside winter storms, when temporary closures or icy sections happen with little notice. F-roads (highland mountain routes) are closed entirely outside roughly late May to September, regardless of weather - see the regional breakdown above for the current picture, or the live map for the full road-by-road detail.
What counts as "closed or impassable" on this page?
Roads Vegagerðin (the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration) marks lokað (closed) or with an ófært status (impassable - snow, ice, flooding, or storm damage). It doesn't include roads that are merely slippery or under a caution advisory; the live map's colour coding shows that fuller picture.
Why does this page show wind gusts, not just average wind speed?
Because gusts are what actually endanger drivers in Iceland. A steady 14 m/s is manageable; the same average gusting to 26 m/s can shove a campervan across a lane or tear a car door from your hand. Icelandic weather stations report both, and the gap between them is often the difference between a normal drive and a damaged rental. Rough guide: gusts above 15 m/s are hard on campervans and high-sided vehicles, above 20-25 m/s difficult for everyone.
How often is this page updated?
Roughly every 30 minutes, pulling fresh data from Vegagerðin (roads), Veðurstofa Íslands (weather), and NOAA (aurora) each time. The figures above reflect the most recent data pull, not a static daily snapshot.
Where does this data come from?
Directly from official sources: Vegagerðin's public road-conditions API (the same data behind road.is), Veðurstofa Íslands (the Icelandic Met Office) for weather observations, and NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center for the aurora forecast. This site adds plain-English interpretation on top - it doesn't generate its own road or weather data.
