Terms of Service

1. Service Description

Iceland Roads provides real-time road condition information, weather warnings, aurora forecasts, and trip planning tools for Icelandic roads.

• The website is free to everyone. Every map, road condition, forecast, F-road status and aurora page is open, with no account and no payment
• Email alerts are free. F-road openings, severe weather warnings, wind alerts, daily forecast digests and aurora alerts, all opt-in and all free at present
• The Trip Pass is paid. A morning brief and route alerts for one trip, sold through Paddle (section 3)

Data sourced from Vegagerðin (Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration) and Veðurstofa Íslands (Icelandic Met Office). We are not affiliated with either agency.

2. Acceptance

By using the website, creating an email alert or buying a Trip Pass, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

3. Trip Pass (paid)

The Trip Pass is the one paid part of Iceland Roads. It is a one-off purchase for one trip, not a subscription, and it never renews.

3.1 What you get

• A morning brief by email at 06:30 Iceland time for each day of your trip that you have planned in the trip builder: the forecast at your stops, road conditions along that day's drive, wind on the passes you cross, daylight, and the aurora outlook where you sleep
• Between briefs, email alerts for the roads and regions on your route: F-road openings and closures, orange and red Met Office warnings for a region you are in that day, and road-weather-station wind alerts in that region
• A private trip page, opened by the link in your confirmation email, where you plan your days, move your dates, pause, cancel, or delete your trip data

3.2 Prices

Prices include VAT or sales tax where it applies. The checkout shows the price in your own currency, with any tax, before you pay, and that is the amount you are charged. Trip days are counted inclusively: 5 to 11 August is 7 days.

3.3 Who sells it: Paddle

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: Paddle is the seller of the Trip Pass, takes the payment, charges any tax, issues your receipt or invoice, and handles refunds and payment questions. Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase. Iceland Roads provides the service itself, and questions about the briefs and alerts come to us.

3.4 Your 14-day right of withdrawal

If you buy as a consumer in the EU or EEA, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a contract for a digital service without giving a reason. The Trip Pass starts as soon as you have paid: your trip page opens straight away, and briefs and alerts run on the days you plan. Before checkout we therefore ask you to tick a box agreeing that the pass starts as soon as you have paid and that you understand you give up the 14-day right of withdrawal for this purchase. We record the time you ticked it with your order. The checkout cannot be started without it.

3.5 Refunds

Refunds are made through Paddle, to the payment method you used. If a payment is refunded in full, or reversed by a chargeback, the pass ends: every brief and alert stops. A partial refund leaves the pass running. Cancelling the pass on your trip page stops the service but does not by itself refund the payment. To ask about a refund, email us or contact Paddle through the link in your receipt.

3.6 Changing, pausing and cancelling

• Before your first brief has been sent you can move the whole trip up to 14 days either side of the dates you bought. The number of days stays the same
• Once your trip has started it can move forward only, by up to 3 days in total
• You can pause and resume at any time; nothing is sent while paused, and pausing does not extend the pass
• Cancelling ends the pass for good

3.7 Limits of the service

• Briefs and alerts are automated summaries of data from Vegagerðin (the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration), Veðurstofa Íslands (the Icelandic Met Office) and other public sources. We do not control that data and cannot guarantee that it is accurate, complete or on time
• A brief is a snapshot from the time it was made. If live road data is unavailable at that moment, the brief says so
• No alert is a guarantee, and the absence of an alert is not an all-clear
• The Trip Pass is not a substitute for official sources. Check umferdin.is, vedur.is and safetravel.is before you drive and along the way
• Email delivery depends on your email provider; check your spam folder for the first brief

3.8 Contact

Questions about your pass: alerts@icelandroads.com. Payment, receipt and refund questions can also go to Paddle through the link in your receipt.

4. Alerts & Accuracy

• Alerts are automated extracts from official feeds. We do not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or timeliness
• Road conditions change rapidly. Always verify on road.is, vedur.is, and safetravel.is before driving
• We are not liable for decisions made based on alerts
• "One email per road opening" applies per season; re-closures may not re-trigger

5. Your Responsibilities

• Provide a valid email address
• Give explicit consent when signing up for alerts
• Manage or cancel any alert via the link in every email (no login required)
• Do not resell or redistribute alerts commercially

6. Intellectual Property

• Alert content derived from public official sources (CC BY 4.0)
• Our compilation, templates, and code are proprietary
• "Iceland Roads" name and logo are trademarks

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Icelandic law:

• Service provided "as is" without warranties
• No liability for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
• The free parts of the service are supplied free of charge, so no fee has been paid for them and none is refundable. For the Trip Pass, see section 3
• Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law

8. Termination

• Alerts auto-purge 30 days after they are unconfirmed or unsubscribed
• Alerts with a trip-date window stop on their own end date
• A Trip Pass ends on the last day of its trip. Its itinerary and alerts are then deleted as described in the privacy policy; the purchase record is kept for accounting
• We may terminate for abuse (spam, resale, automated scraping)

9. Governing Law & Disputes

Icelandic law applies. Disputes resolved in Icelandic courts (Reykjavík).

10. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes notified via email 30 days prior. Continued use = acceptance.
