Skip the Hvalfjörður tunnel and take scenic Route 47 around the fjord to the Botnsdalur car park (free) at its head - about an hour from Reykjavík. Iceland's second-tallest waterfall is earned on foot: a 3–4 hour round-trip hike involving a cave, a log bridge over the river (the log is removed in winter), and a thigh-deep wade on the classic loop. Proper footwear required; the canyon-edge path is not for vertigo sufferers.
