Route 36 runs straight from Reykjavík to the national park in about 45 minutes, paved and maintained year-round. Parking is paid (card machines; the P1 car park by the visitor centre is the most convenient for the Almannagjá rift walk). The road over Mosfellsheiði can get icy patches and drifting snow in winter - check conditions on stormy days.
