Getting there

Europe's westernmost point is a committed drive: Route 62 toward Patreksfjörður, then Route 612 - the final 12 km are narrow cliff-side gravel, slow but spectacular. Budget 6+ hours from Reykjavík (many break the trip at Flókalundur or Patreksfjörður). Free parking at the lighthouse; puffins sit within metres of the path from May to mid-August. The road is effectively a summer road - check status outside June–September.
