Getting there

F249 branches off Route 1 by Seljalandsfoss - but its river crossings, ending with the notorious Krossá, destroy rental cars every summer and no insurance covers water damage. The honest advice: park at Seljalandsfoss and take the highland bus or a super-jeep tour in; they cross safely every day. If you do drive, it's big-4x4-convoy territory, typically mid-June to September.
