Getting there

186 km from Reykjavík on Route 1, over the Reynisfjall pass - the last stretch drops steeply into the village and catches strong wind and winter ice. Vík is the last proper town before the long, empty stretch east toward Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Höfn: fuel up here. Free parking by the black beach and at the church viewpoint above town.
